Partner, Darren Davies, attends the British Franchise Association Conference & Awards 2025

Darren Davies, Partner and Head of Franchise Law and Intellectual Property here at Hutchinson Thomas, was delighted to represent the firm at the British Franchise Association (BFA) Conference & Awards 2025, held at the Telford International Centre on 6 November.

The annual event brought together franchisors, franchisees, and professional advisers from across the UK to explore the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping the franchising landscape.

As a BFA Advisor firm, Hutchinson Thomas is proud to maintain close ties with the British Franchise Association — the body responsible for setting quality standards for UK franchising since 1977. The firm’s active engagement with the BFA ensures that clients benefit from advice fully aligned with the industry’s best practices and ethical standards.

Darren, who has held his Qualified Franchise Professional (QFP) status for four years, found this year’s conference both inspiring and informative. One of the highlights was an engaging keynote presentation from entrepreneur and former “Dragon’s Den” investor, Piers Linney, who shared valuable insights on innovation, business growth, and the evolving role of technology in modern franchising.

“The BFA Conference is always an excellent opportunity to connect with peers, share knowledge, and gain new perspectives on the ever-changing franchising sector,” said Darren. “This year’s sessions provided a wealth of ideas that will no doubt inform and enhance the support we provide to our clients involved in franchising.”

Darren’s QFP qualification is a formal recognition of his professional knowledge and experience in franchising, awarded by the British Franchise Association. Held by only a select group of legal professionals in the UK, it demonstrates his deep understanding of franchising best practice and his commitment to ongoing professional development.

At Hutchinson Thomas, we encourage and support our staff to pursue continued learning and professional growth, ensuring our clients receive advice that is both current and commercially sound. Darren’s qualification and his active participation in BFA events are a testament to that ethos — and to the firm’s commitment to maintaining its leading position in franchise law across Wales and beyond.

Whether you are considering franchising your business, purchasing a franchise, or seeking expert legal advice on franchise agreements, Hutchinson Thomas offers clear, practical guidance tailored to your specific needs.
