Everyone will be aware of the serious situation happening in Ukraine at the current time, with the terrible consequences it has for huge numbers of the Ukrainian people.
Over the weekend, Sylwia Żaczek, a trainee solicitor here at Hutchinson Thomas, organised a Facebook appeal across the Swansea/Neath region for items in aid of refugees fleeing the conflict.
Sylwia coordinated collection of the donated items and arranged for a Polish-owned van company to transport (free of charge) basic supplies, including first aid kits, nappies, food and other essentials, to the Polish/Ukrainian border.
Due to the success of this appeal, Sylwia hopes to repeat it very soon and is seeking further donations.
The appeal is asking for urgent donations of medical supplies of first aid kits, plasters, bandages, antiseptic creams, paracetamol etc.; toiletries, including shampoo, soap, wet wipes and sanitary products; and children’s products, including nappies, dried baby milk, Sudocrem etc. They are not currently seeking donations of clothes or blankets.
Donations can be taken to NMCC Neath at Brookdale Street, Melyn, Neath SA11 1PB on Tuesday, March 1, between 2 pm and 8 pm, Wednesday, March 2, and Thursday, March 3, between 4 pm and 8 pm. The next delivery is due to depart for the Polish/Ukrainian border on Friday, March 4.
There will also be further subsequent deliveries as needed, with another due to set off on the week commencing 14th March. Anyone willing to help Sylwia with these deliveries or wishing to donate items can message her via Facebook here.
